Saudi Telecom and Telecom Italia Sparkle have announced the provisioning of what they claim is the first 2x100Gbps of IP transit connectivity in the Middle East.

2x100Gbps transit connectivity represents an unparalleled throughput capability and is expected to serve Saudi Telecom customers in the region with best in class performance.

“As the largest telecommunications operator in the largest market within the Middle East, we must ensure best internet experience to our domestic and regional customers by always adopting latest connectivity technologies and improving performance,” said Humoud Alkussayer, Saudi Telecom’s vice president for wholesale.

“The 100Gbps connectivity solution is the first to be introduced within the Middle East. We are delighted to be collaborating with TI Sparkle in introducing this state-of-art technology to respond to an ever-growing demand for more sophisticated and innovative IP services which we are experiencing in our home market”.

TI Sparkle’s Sicily hub in Palermo is located closer to the Middle East and Africa than any other European peering point, and is connected to all landing stations in Sicily.

“With the introduction of the 100Gbps technology to the Middle East and Africa and the recent creation of a massive IP gravitational center in the middle of the Mediterranean through our Sicily hub, TI Sparkle is a pioneer in providing top quality and advanced cost efficient connectivity solutions to customers in the region who are experiencing a tremendous growth of advanced IP services and demand of digital contents in their home markets,” said Alessandro Talotta, TI Sparkle CEO.

“We are now able to better serve ISPs in the Middle East and Africa by bringing worldwide content directly to their doorsteps with cutting-edge connectivity technology.
