LTE will outnumber WiMAX 7:1 by 2015

By 2015, the number of LTE subscribers worldwide is predicted to be seven times the number of WiMAX subscribers, according to a report from TeleGeography Research.

Over the next five years, LTE will gain enough subscribers to surpass the 250 million mark equating to a 3% penetration rate of all wireless users. From its launch in 2004 until 2010, WiMAX gained a 2% share in the number of wireless users worldwide. It is predicted in the next five years that WiMAX will grow at an average rate of 30% per year.

LTE is set to maintain its strong position with major cellular service providers launching LTE networks in 55 countries during the next two years. In the three years after that, it is expected that other countries will also implement LTE networks.

The deployment of WiMAX is expected to focus more on fixed and nomadic markets unlike LTE where the primary focus is mobile markets.
