EdgeCast and TeliaSonera strike CDN agreement

TeliaSonera has announced it has selected EdgeCast Networks to accelerate its CDN offering and expand the company’s customer base.

EdgeCast said the deal also allows it to increase the reach and capacity of its network, and both companies will make significant investments in driving network infrastructure for better performance overall.

The move is said to be catered towards addressing the high demand for acceleration and CDN solutions across TeliaSonera’s Nordic markets, and the operator will utilise the services for better web performance across its footprint.

“TeliaSonera is the premier, dominant provider in a critical region – and after many years of working with them, we’re excited to bring our relationship to this new level,” said James Segil, co-founder and president at EdgeCast Networks.

“They have a huge number of deep customer relationships and will now be able to offer those customers powerful and proven CDN solutions.”

TeliaSonera has placed an increasing focus on customer demand for improved media and entertainment services, to deliver better quality for over-the-top media delivery.

Launching the CDN is expected to increase regional presence for both companies, and TeliaSonera said it will also leverage EdgeCast’s network globally to tap into additional content services across different markets.

EdgeCast said the deal also gives it increased opportunities throughout the Nordic region.

“Site acceleration and global content delivery have become core business requirements for many of our customers, and therefore offering those services is of critical strategic importance to us,” said Staffan Göjeryd, VP of product management at TeliaSonera.

“The partnership with EdgeCast positions us perfectly to offer a global suite of CDN solutions to the Nordic customer base while also adding a significant new source of revenue.”

EdgeCast has numerous carrier partners in the space, and TeliaSonera said its creative thinking, as well as its network performance was why it chose to partner with the CDN provider.
