Telefónica and Huawei partner for ODN solutions

Spain’s Telefónica and Chinese vendor Huawei have today announced a joint development agreement for the deployment of optical distribution network (ODN) solutions.

The solutions include Huawei’s FastConnect services, designed to help Telefónica address the challenges of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity, as well as improve the fibre deployment process.

“The ODN is a fundamental piece on the FTTH deployment,” said Daniel Paul, access network director at Telefónica Spain.

“Huawei, with its adaptability and plug-and-play ODN solutions, such as FastConnect, has improved our FTTH broadband services deployment efficiency and helped to implement our project.”

Telefónica selected Huawei’s customised ODN solutions for its FTTH network to cover its outdoor connectivity issues, and has adopted an alternative system for outdoor optical connectors of fast-connection technology.

“The growth of ultra-broadband fixed networks is vigorous worldwide,” said You Yiyong, president of Huawei access network product line.

“As a clear example of our commitment to innovation and our focus on customer challenges, we have developed FastConnect solutions, which greatly improve FTTH deployment efficiency and strongly support customer strategy in the construction of ultra-broadband networks.”

Huawei announced its FTTD (fibre-to-the-door) technology in February 2013.
