MTS increases mobile contract deal with Ericsson

Russia’s biggest operator MTS has increased the value of its contract with Swedish contract supplier to Ericsson to over $1.5 billion.

MTS has pledged to invest an extra $286 million with Ericsson to expand and modernise its 2G, 3G and LTE networks across Russia.

MTS selected Ericsson to develop ICT infrastructure for its LTE roll-out in June this year, and the company has been chosen to deploy the network in four regions covering over half of the country.

At the time, Andrei Dubovskov, president and CEO at MTS said: “We have already established a long-term strategic cooperation with Ericsson for network infrastructure development, and now Ericsson will support us to deploy next-generation services in major parts of Russia.”

Ericsson is fast becoming a major vendor for the Russian market, after also striking a seven-year partnership with the country’s number two player Megafon this month.
