The Event Relocation

  • Will the event be relocating or is it staying in Hong Kong SAR?

Due to escalating civil unrest in Hong Kong SAR Capacity Asia 2019 and Subsea Asia 2019 are both being relocated to Macau SAR. The event will take place at the Grand Hyatt Macau on the same dates 02 - 04 December 2019

  • When will the event take place?

The event will take place on the same dates as previously scheduled (Subsea Asia - 2nd December 2019, Capacity Asia 3rd-4th December 2019).

  • Where will the event be relocated to?

The Event is being relocated to Macau SAR. Macau is a separate Special Administrative Region. There have been no incidents of civil unrest in Macau SAR. Macau SAR is situated on China’s southern coast, 60km (37mi) west of Hong Kong SAR. Apart from its wealth of architecturally well-preserved colonial buildings; it is also known as the world’s casino capital or Asia’s answer to Las Vegas.

  • Why are you moving the event to Macau SAR?

After consulting our key partners, stakeholders, travel security experts and our colleagues in our Euromoney offices in Hong Kong SAR, the group consensus was in favour of this relocation.

We believe this is a positive move for the following reasons:

  • There aren’t any incidences of protests and civil unrest in Macau SAR
  • It is situated on China’s southern coast, only 60km (37mi) west of Hong Kong SAR.
  • It is easily accessible by ferry, helicopter or road from Hong Kong SAR
  • Hong Kong International Airport offers a direct transit to the ferry.
  • There are visa exemptions for 76 countries
  • For those who have already booked, there are minimal disruptions to travel plans
  • There are a number of airlines with direct flights into Macau International Airport
  • Macau international Airport operates 24 hours a day.
  • Macau is rich in culture and entertainment

Travel to Macau SAR

  • Can I get a ferry directly from Hong Kong International Airport?

Yes you can. Arriving passengers through Hong Kong International Airport are able to transfer as transit passengers to Macau SAR.  Immigration and customs formalities would be completed in Macau SAR. The benefit of this is that the passenger would not have to go through Hong Kong City or even go through Hong Kong SAR immigration and arrivals area.

A direct ferry transfer between Hong Kong International Airport and Macau SAR takes around 60 minutes.

Some important tips:

  • It is important that you plan your arrival times to coincide with the ferry departure times.
  • Allow sufficient time to get through immigration and co-ordinate with ferry times.
  • Purchase tickets prior to departing your home country
  • Some airlines participate with direct luggage transfer to the ferry

It is important to book your tickets ahead of time as the spaces on the ferry fill up quickly. There are two ferry companies in operation, so you would need to check your sailing schedule to determine which company to use.

What is the ferry schedule at Hong Kong international Airport?

The ferry leaves Hong Kong International Airport Sky Pier on three sailings a day, so it is important to check your flight times and ensure that you have sufficient time between your flight arrival and your sailing time.

The same should be done for your return ferry to Hong Kong International Airport.

  • Would I have to change my travel plans?

If you have already booked flights to Hong Kong SAR, there would be no need to change your travel plans.

There are direct ferries from Hong Kong International Airport where you can bypass immigration and transit directly to the ferry terminal. Immigration and custom formalities are completed when you get to Macao International Airport.  There is even an arrangement with participating airlines where luggage can be transferred directly to the ferry.

  • Do I need to go through Hong Kong City to find transportation to Macao SAR?

As arriving passengers into Hong Kong International Airport, you can avoid going into Hong Kong City to get transportation into Macau SAR.

You can transfer as transit passengers to the ferry skypier terminal to Macau SAR, avoiding immigration and customs; these will be completed upon arrival at Macau SAR.

  • How do I travel to Macau SAR?

From Hong Kong SAR to Macau SAR, there are three modes of transportation: sea, land, and air. 

Travelling by ferry

There are several points providing ferry services from Hong Kong SAR:

  • From Hong Kong International Airport where you can bypass the immigration and transfer directly to the Skypier. For arriving passengers only.
  • From Hong Kong Island, ferries are operated 24 hours a day. An hour trip from Sheung Wan to Macau is operated by Turbo Jet and Cotai Jet. These are offered every 15 – 30 minutes during the day and every hour at night.
  • From Kowloon China (HK) Ferry Terminal to Macau can take up to 90 minutes via ferries from New World First Ferries. Note that these ferries leave less frequently compared to those stationed in Hong Kong Island.

Travelling by Air

Macau international Airport operates 24 hours a day. There are a number of airlines with direct flights into Macau International Airport.

Travelling by Road
Hong Kong- Zhuhai-Macao Bridge allows visitors to enter Macao SAR by vehicles. Private car hires, coaches and shuttle buses are readily available.

  • Can I get direct flights to Macau SAR?

A number of airlines fly directly to Macau SAR including Air China, Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Korean Air, China Eastern, Philippine Airlines, EVA Air, Asiana Airlines and Hainan Airlines.   There are no direct flights from the U.K.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Macau SAR?

There are 76 countries that do not need visas to enter Macau SAR. To check whether you need to apply for a Macau visa or to see the visa application process, please visit the Macau immigration office website http://www.fsm.gov.mo/psp/eng/AfMV.html.

  • Once I arrive in Macau SAR, how do I get to the Grand Hyatt Macau?

There are free shuttle buses from the border gate, airport and ferry terminal to the Grand Hyatt Macau (located in the City of Dreams). Click here to get a full schedule.

  • I have booked a room at the Conrad in Hong Kong SAR – will I have to pay for it?

If you wish to cancel your booking at the Conrad please contact them directly as soon as possible to advise them of your change in plans. Failure to advise them could result in you being charged as a no- show.

  • I’m not able to cancel my hotel booking in Hong Kong SAR, how can I get to the event?

If it is not possible to cancel your hotel booking or you would like to keep your booking in in Hong Kong SAR, getting to Macao SAR is not difficult by ferry or by road.

Registration and passes

  • I have already purchased a pass, would I need to re-register?

You will not need to re-register. Your passes are still valid for this event

  • Can I get a refund on my Delegate Pass if I decide I no longer wish to attend?

The timing, content and agenda for the event remain unchanged and your delegate pass remains valid. As the circumstances causing the relocation of the event were beyond our control, no refunds will be paid.

  • I have incurred costs organizing a trip to Hong Kong SAR that I can no longer use – will Capacity reimburse me?

Capacity is not responsible for any travel or accommodation expenses resulting from the change in venue of the event. Please liaise with your insurance for possible reimbursement.
