1) Will the event be relocating/ staying in Hong Kong?
We have been assessing the travel security information from trusted government sources and based on this information, Subsea Asia 2019 is scheduled to take place on the 2nd of December 2019 at The Renaissance, Hong Kong.
2) I am concerned that the venue is close to the protests and presents a security risk.
We are keeping a close watch over the evolving situation, as our participants’ safety is our top priority. We have been assessing the characteristics of the protests over the past few months and there have been pockets of protests all over the city and not specific to one location. We are working closely with both the hotel and trusted travel security sources to keep abreast of any new developments and we will pass on communication to all participants to minimise the impact on their journey to the venue. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Visitor Service Centres, Hotline: +852 2508 1234 and Live Chat (9am - 6pm daily) are also available to offer assistance to all visitors to Hong Kong.
3) I am concerned that the airport will be closed again and I won’t be able to get in and out.
Hong Kong authorities have now implemented more stringent security measures to admit only legitimate passengers upon presentation of passports, airline tickets or boarding passes into the airport building to prevent future airport shutdowns. We advise to factor in extra time to allow for delays.
4) If I cannot get to the venue due to disruption from protests, will I get a refund?
All refunds will be subject to the terms in our Event Participants Terms and Conditions.
5) Where can I get more updates about the situation?
We will continue to monitor the situation and will be providing prompt updates on this page over the next few months, should the situation change. We urge you to do the same. Transport within Hong Kong SAR
The closest airport to the The Renaissance Hong Kong Harbour View Hotel is:
Hong Kong International Airport (HKG)– 30 min from the hotel and cabs will cost around HK$350 (US$45).
Taxis are provided by the airport. The information desk after customs can provide you with an estimate to your hotel and maps to show the driver. A taxi from the airport to Central will cost $250-350, based on meter charge, plus toll fees.
