As demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow in Latvia, data centre operator DEAC has joined forced with a subsidiary of CITIC Telecom International as it looks to offer more services to a wider audience.

The subsidiary in question is CITIC Telecom CPC, which is involved in managed cloud computing, IP networking, information security, and data centre services. It has previously traded as PSINet HK and CPCNet.

The partnership between the two will allow both companies to offer disaster recovery and backup services to clients in multiple locations across the Baltics, complementing ICT capabilities in China and Russia.

According to Serve Bunnik, the deputy director of CITIC Telecom CPC Europe, the development is "another key step" towards a long-term strategy the two are working on to build a dedicated carrier-neutral and internet-neutral data centre network.

Bunnik added: "We're excited to complement our cloud and data centre solutions and offer our clients the opportunity to use DEAC's high-quality data centre in Latvia, Riga to tap into the fast-growing cloud data centre markets."

Data centres owned by both parties will be called on for the work with CITIC Telecom's deployment at DEAC supporting "strategically seamless customer engagement services across regions".

It will allow enterprise to meet local data sovereignty requirements while enabling all CITIC Telecom CPC's core competencies and expertise across multiple ICT areas, including networking, information security cloud and data centres.

"Cooperation with CITIC Telecom CPC will make a new level of global extension for DEAC. Together, we are looking forward to leveraging CITIC Telecom CPC infrastructure around the Globe", says Andris Gailitis, CEO of DEAC.

Since 2020 DEAC has been owned by Quaero Capital, which also controls the Lithuanian Data Centre Logistics (DLC). Last year DEAC – which has customers in 40 countries – expanded its partners DC network by adding DLC's facilities in Vilnius. At the time DEAC also said it was planning investments of €1 million over the course of 2021, targeting energy efficiency and other areas.

CITIC Telecom CPC is now headed by Brook Wong (Ching Wa Wong), who took on the CEO role effective 1 February alongside the role of VP of CITIC Telecom International Holdings Limited.
