Windstream Wholesale confirms that it will connect its Intelligent Converged Optical Network (ICON) to the EdgeConneX data centre in Tempe, Arizona.

The Tempe network connection is due to go live in January 2022 and marks the latest addition to Windstream’s growing EdgeConneX portfolio.

“We are excited to provide our customers with diverse, high-capacity connectivity to the fast-growing Phoenix-Tempe-Scottsdale area,” said Joe Scattareggia (pictured), executive vice president of Windstream Wholesale.

“And we’re equally pleased to continue growing our relationship with EdgeConneX, a truly top-flight data centre provider.”

The aforementioned PHX01 data centre is located less than 10 minutes from downtown Phoenix and connects to Windstream’s point of presence at 1710 East Grant Street in Phoenix and houses approximately 30 clients, including cable and content providers, carriers, enterprise-scale customers and international tenants.

In addition, a Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute cloud on-ramp is available at Windstream’s Phoenix facility as well as other multi-cloud hybrid solutions, enabling customers to access leading content service provider’s like AWS, Google, Oracle and IBM.

“Our edge network facilities were engineered to support latency sensitive and bandwidth intensive applications,” said Phillip Marangella, chief marketing officer for EdgeConneX.

“By partnering with Windstream Wholesale, we can offer increased capacity options and additional ways for our customers to advance their digital transformation objectives. We are thrilled to welcome Windstream Wholesale into the mix in Tempe.”

Windstream’s ICON delivers open and disaggregated networking infrastructure, enabling wholesale and enterprise technology customers to select unique custom routes, maintain operational insights with Windstream’s Network Intelligence functions, and place their networks closer to the edge to better serve end-users.

In related news, November saw Windstream Wholesale launch advanced optical solutions from NTT’s data centre campus in Sacramento, as part of Windstream's new Sacramento-to-Portland route.

The news location will leverage the company's ICON with connection to the Hillsboro, Oregon, cable landing station confirmed in August.
