IIJ turns to Zella DC to launch DX edge in Japan

The Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) has turned to Zella DC to launch a new edge data centre solution in the market, DX edge.

The launch follows a partnership between the two that will see IIJ bundle Zella's micro data centre (MDC) products with its own for deployment at its Shiroi Data Center Campus. The DX edge brand will be marketed as a value-added service based on Zella DC's micro data centre (MDC) products – which includes both the outdoor edge solution Zella Hut, and the indoor version, Zella Pro – and adding them to IIJ's modular-type data centre IZmo series.

The new DX edge suite provides an all-in-one solution from installation to operation and maintenance for MDCs. As a result, customers can quickly deploy an edge computing platform and an on-site digital/IT platform with efficient operation.

The news breaks a little more than a month after Zella DC exported its Zella Hut telco edge solution to Japan.

The two partners said: "The MDC has the functions required for a data centre in a compact box and without dedicated server rooms. Therefore, it is possible to start small quickly and expand on demand. It is also possible to connect multiple units as a module."

IIJ said customers designing MDC configurations require a minimum lead time of around two months. Additionally, IIJ will provide remote operation and maintenance, including troubleshooting, security notifications, and other elements. As a result, IIJ can provide the edge computing that comes with its IoT and network services based on customer requirements.

The two continued to explain: "Multiple sites and multiple MDCs can be centrally operated and maintained remotely. In case of any component failures, IIJ provides send-back maintenance, and users can replace plug-and-play components"

The Shiroi campus, which completed in 2019, is also a base for JPNAP Tokyo Service, an IX service provided by Multifeed, that will commence operations in March 2022.
