Lamprell leaves Vodafone to join software group Aveva

Helen Lamprell has left Vodafone, where she was general counsel and external affairs director of the UK operation, and joined software company Aveva.

Aveva, one of the largest software companies in the UK, is 60% owned by Paris-based energy company Schneider Electric, which has a heavy focus on data centres. A year ago reached agreement to acquire OSIsoft, which specialises in real-time industrial operational data software and services.

Lamprell (pictured) will be general counsel and company secretary, based in London.

She said: “I’m looking forward to joining Aveva at a moment when advanced digital technologies are delivering widespread economic and ESG [environmental, social and corporate governance] benefits for industrial organisations and their customers.”

In the year ending 31 March 2021, Aveva reported sales of £820 million, with adjusted earnings before interest and taxes of £226 million. Its market capitalisation is £10.95 billion.

At Vodafone, where she spent 18 years, Lamprell was at the centre of many of its biggest deals, including the 2013 agreement to sell its 45% stake in Verizon Wireless to the Verizon group for US$130 billion.

After that she moved to the UK operation, with a broad remit ranging from security to communications.

She was responsible for government affairs, regulatory, legal, corporate security, crisis management, media, social media, risk and compliance and sustainability. Lamprell chaired the risk and compliance committee and sat on the audit committee, and was a trustee of the Vodafone Foundation.

She is a director of the not-for profit Employers’ Initiative on Domestic Abuse, and a member of the UK government’s Women’s Business Council.
