Frontier Communications has hired an executive with deep experience of retail and bankruptcy as its chief digital information officer.

Melissa Pint, who has joined the company in the role, spent five years at US retailer JCPenney, which went into chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2020 – a month after Frontier Communications itself started the same process.

JCPenney emerged in September 2020 when two investors bought it for US$800 million. Frontier was again a month ahead, having emerged in August 2020 with a new team in place, led by former Vodafone UK CEO Nick Jeffery.

In her new role, said Frontier, Pint will “lead the company’s digital transformation journey, overseeing digital operations and architecture, enterprise technology architecture, business processes and enhancing customer engagement initiatives”.

At JCPenney, she was most recently senior vice president and head of technology. Frontier said that she designed and successfully implemented a digital optimisation strategy for the technology group and led a global team in charge of digital transformation to accelerate its turnaround under JCPenney’s new management.

Jeffery said: “Frontier is on an ambitious digital transformation journey, and I can’t think of a more qualified leader than Melissa to spearhead this effort.” He added: “She brings extensive leadership experience and a demonstrated ability to digitally transform iconic brands to meet the dynamic needs and expectations of customers, employees and partners. We’re thrilled to have her onboard.”

This is just the latest change to the top team at Frontier since Jeffery took over as CEO. As part of its post-bankruptcy reconstruction, Frontier hired Veronica Bloodworth from AT&T to be executive VP and chief network officer. She was senior VP of construction and engineering for AT&T, leading the planning, design, construction and capital maintenance of the wireline and wireless network infrastructure across a national footprint.

In June 2021 Frontier announced Scott Beasley was to join as CFO following the resignation of Sheldon Bruha. And the same month Jeffery expanded the role of Mike Shippey to be executive VP for business and wholesale and appointed him to the company’s executive committee.
