DigitalBridge snaps up Santa Clara facility

DigitalBridge Group has acquired the 24MW CA22 facility for $539 million, expanding its Vantage SDC (Stabilized Data Centers) platform.

The transaction extends Vantage SDC’s footprint to 13 stabilised hyperscale data centres across North America and expands capacity by 14%, to reach 177MW.

It also gives enhanced reach into one of the biggest markets in the US. CA22 is located in Vantage Data Center’s CA2 campus next to Vantage SDC’s fully-owned CA21 facility, which serves the supply-constrained Santa Clara market.

“DigitalBridge’s commitment to supporting the growth of its portfolio companies while serving the growing need for hyperscale data centers remains strong,” said Marc Ganzi (pictured) ,president and CEO of DigitalBridge. “This transaction not only advances Vantage SDC’s strategic plan to grow its portfolio of stabilised data centers, but also increases DigitalBridge’s exposure to world-class digital infrastructure assets that deliver consistent returns for investors.”

Vantage Data Centres entered into a $3.5 billion strategic partnership with a DigitalBridge-led investor group last July – although DigitalBridge Group was then called Colony Capital.

This latest development marks the first hyperscale data centre acquisition since then and, under the terms of the agreement, Vantage Data Centers will continue to manage and operate CA22 as part of its global footprint.

In September, Vantage arrived in Asia via two acquisitions, Agile Data Centres and the portfolio owned by PCCW.

Over the full year 2020, Vantage Data Centers doubled its size in terms of markets served, and increased IT capacity by more than 90%.
