Telia Company's Jonas Bengtsson (pictured) has resigned from his role as executive vice president and general counsel after six years with the company.

Filling his shoes, by summer 2022, Tele2's Stefan Backman will take on the role of EVP, group general counsel and head of corporate affairs. Bengtsson will leave the company before the end of this year.

Details on Bengtsson's next move were light, however Telia Company president and CEO Allison Kirkby said his next opportunity was "outside of the telecom sector".

Commenting on this resignation, she said: “Following the resolution of some of Telia Company’s most significant challenges in recent years and the resetting of the company’s Nordic and Baltic strategy, in all of which Jonas has played a fundamental role, Jonas has tendered his resignation to take up an opportunity outside of the telecom sector.

"I am tremendously grateful for his outstanding contribution to the company and the group executive management team, as well as the support he has provided to me since my arrival at Telia.”

Stefan Backman, currently executive vice president, group general counsel and wholesale business at Tele2 AB will join Telia Company’s group executive management team as EVP, group general counsel, head of corporate affairs.

"I am delighted and proud to welcome Stefan to Telia Company and the group executive management team. Stefan’s extensive sector experience, his legal and commercial acumen as well as his deep understanding of Telia’s footprint will be of enormous value as we accelerate our transformation towards a Better Telia,” says Allison Kirkby.

Bengtsson will remain with Telia Company until the end of 2021 and Backman will take up his new position no later than summer 2022.
