Dialog Axiata has opened another Tier 3 data centre near Colombo (pictured), Sri Lanka.

The facility is located in Piliyandala and will be used by the telco to widen its cloud and IT services offering to business and government customers.

Dialog is also in the process of upgrading its telecoms network to support 5G deployments, facilitated by the type of cloud infrastructure in the new data centre.

Dialog Axiata is a subsidiary of Malaysian telco Axiata Group Berhad. The company opened Sri Lanka’s first Tier 3 data centre in Malabe in 2017.

In 2018, the firm formed a joint venture with Orion City to build and manage a data centre at the Orion City IT Park in Colombo.

Supun Weerasinghe, group chief executive of Dialog Axiata, said: “With Piliyandala, supplemented by our investments in the Bay of Bengal Gateway and Maldives Sri Lanka Cable system, we aim to establish the most secure and scalable infrastructure to position Sri Lanka as a leader in this digital age.”

Jayantha De Silva, secretary for the ministry of technology, added: “We aim to better equip local businesses with a full range of ICT solutions to enable them to thrive in a global arena.

“The government is grateful for the support given by Dialog in elevating platforms to meet the key demands made by businesses, further accelerating the country’s digital transformation towards a digitally inclusive Sri Lanka.”
