US-based managed service provider Thrive has kick-started its international expansion with the acquisition of UK network, cloud and data centre services firm ONI.

Luton (pictured), Bedfordshire-based ONI operates its own Tier-3+ data centre to deliver its cloud services and is a Cisco Gold partner. It provides IaaS, backup and disaster recovery, unified comms and contact centre as-a-service, among other services.

Thrive was recently financially backed by Court Square Capital Partners, and the ONI deal is the first move made by Thrive to expand its footprint outside the US.

“ONI is a tremendous IT managed services company with deep Cisco WAN, unified communications and cloud expertise,” said Rob Stephenson, CEO of Thrive. “We were attracted by a strong management team and customer base and a desirable geographic location just north of London.”

He added: “We plan to add our robust Microsoft and cyber security capabilities to assist the ONI clientele, and we're very excited to utilise their expert WAN engineering team to drive additional value to our client base.”

Kevin Kivlochan, CEO of ONI, said the deal will “support our existing clients in the UK with a wider range of service and support offerings”.

He will become the chief executive for Thrive's European operations, reporting directly to Stephenson, and all ONI personnel will remain onboard working directly for him, said Thrive

ONI marks Thrive's eleventh acquisition since 2016. Recently, it acquired Howard Tech Advisors and Apex IT Group.
