Netflix exec steps into cybersecurity

Dave Temkin, who built and scaled the Content Delivery Network (CDN) for Netflix, has joined cybersecurity firm Imperva, Inc.

In his new role, Temkin will work on the reliability, scalability, and uptime of Imperva's global network delivering edge (CDN, DDoS), application (WAF, Advanced Bot Protection, API Security), and data (Cloud Data Security) security solutions.

Temkin is co-founder and current board member of Community IX and the New York Network Operators Group (NYNOG). He has held leadership roles with Citigroup, Telx (now Digital Realty), Bridgewater Associates, and Right Media, where he was responsible for leading the integration of their infrastructure into the Yahoo! network upon acquisition. He also serves as an advisor to the board of directors of Catchpoint, and as an advisor to DRIVENETS.

At Netflix, Temkin was VP of network systems infrastructure, where he assembled and led the team that built one of the world’s largest CDNs and global studio technical infrastructure including networking, systems and storage.

His responsibilities also included complementary business operations such as provisioning and logistics that enabled Netflix to become the most scalable, high performing and reliable provider of streaming content in the world. For this he took at hybrid approach of owned infrastructure, public, and private cloud computing. Temkin also helped drive Netflix’s cloud migration by moving applications from legacy data centers to cloud infrastructure.
