NanoAvionics adds Bravo to Aurora Insight network

NanoAvionics has successfully established communications with Bravo, the second nanosatellite the company built and launched for Aurora Insight.

Bravo was sent into low Earth orbit (LEO) on 28 April onboard an Arianespace Vega rocket by Italian rocket maker Avio. It followed the launch of its twin satellite Charlie earlier this year on SpaceX’s Transporter-1 rideshare mission, and the demo-satellite Alpha launched in 2018.

Flying at a height of 500-600 miles above Earth, scanning radio frequencies, these satellites form a critical part of Aurora’s technology, which maps network activity globally.

“While we had many launches, the excitement that comes with each successful mission – like the twin satellites for Aurora Insight – never ceases,” said Vytenis J. Buzas, CEO of NanoAvionics.

“The advantage that attracts our customers is the combination of our standardised buses, already lowering cost, with easy and thus cost-effective custom modification. Due to our experience and services, they can outsource the whole end-to-end satellite infrastructure and operations to us and focus entirely on their data and business.”

Empirix launches 5G monitoring and assurance platform

Empirix has launched a new version of KLERITY (2.1) for 5G Standalone (5G SA).

The platform enables mobile operators deploying 5G SA networks and enterprises deploying IoT and private 5G networks to simplify operations and derive accurate intelligence into Quality of Experience when planning, launching, operating and monetising services running on 5G SA networks, while also reducing total cost of ownership.

“5G standalone makes traditional network topologies irrelevant and legacy approaches to network and service assurance outdated,” said Edoardo Rizzi, Chief Product Officer at Empirix.

“The future of network-cloud management, service fulfilment and operations is now directly linked to process automation in real-time with zero human intervention. By taking a cloud-native by design approach, the new KLERITY solution framework gives operators the actionable insight and intelligence they need to be able to deliver a multi-cloud, multi-vendor, multi-access network by correlating and contextualising network and service data.”

In related news earlier this month Infovista has completed the acquisition of Empirix.

PAC Fiber chooses Adtran’s Combo PON for broadband

PAC Fiber is usinf ADTRAN’s 10G fibre access platform with flexible Combo PON technology to future proof its broadband network.

The Adtran solution helps PAC Fiber to improve its network capacity and expand its network to reach more subscribers.

Specifically, PAC Fiber is using the expanded capacity of XGS-PON to support its community in rural Georgia as the demand for high-speed broadband grows. It is now offering multi-gigabit broadband services that will connect local farms, families and students to better economic opportunities.

“The difference between us and a Tier 1 operator is that we prioritize our community over revenue. When the pandemic hit, we put every consideration in place to support our local residents and businesses, even setting up hot spots in parks where students could stay in their car and remain safe while connecting to the internet to do schoolwork,” said Noah Covington, director of operations at PAC Fiber.

“We have partnered with ADTRAN for many years and they always help us build the right network that is agile, reliable and enables us to do these types of community initiatives, while keeping our prices competitive.”

Telefónica Spain picks Nokia for IP Network transformation

Nokia has been selected by Telefónica Spain to upgrade the operator’s IP network and deliver 5G and Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) connectivity to more people in Spain.

Under the terms of the deal, Telefónica will deploy the Nokia 7250 IXR products, including the 7250 IXR-e cell site router for access and the 7250 IXR-R6 for aggregation. Both are designed to support edge clouds, moving applications closer to end users for a better customer experience.

“The network extensions from Nokia will help Telefonica provide a full-service catalogue to our customers,” said Javier Gutiérrez, strategy and network development vice president at Telefónica Spain.

“Services including video streaming and multicast live video, including Telefonica´s TV platform Movistar+, voice, internet broadband, and a range of enterprise services will be available through both our fixed access and mobile infrastructure, providing increased network coverage for rural and remote sites in particular.”

WPD Telecoms deploys Infinera XTM series for new regional network

WPD Telecoms, Western Power Distribution’s telecoms division, has selected Infinera’s XTM series metro optical platform for its new regional network in the South West of England.

Using Infinera’s XTM solution, WPD Telecoms is able to roll out new optical infrastructure to build an advanced 100G/200G optical transport network, positioning the company easily transition to 400G pluggable optical technology.

In addition, WPD Telecoms is now equipped with a compact, flexible, and efficient platform that is flexible grid-ready and features Raman amplification to overcome long spans, providing efficiency on its network footprint.

“WPD Telecoms invests in the latest leading-edge technology. That is why we selected Infinera’s XTM Series for this major new network,” said Richard Slane, WPD Telecoms Commercial Manager.

“We have always found that Infinera’s metro and regional solutions have provided the capacity and functionality we’ve needed, while also being easy to use and very power efficient. We are confident the XTM will provide our network with the capacity required now and will scale easily to 400G when we’re ready."
