Telxius launches Tannat subsea system connecting Brazil and Argentina

Telxius has unveiled its new Tannat subsea cable, connecting Santos in Brazil to Las Toninas in Argentina.

The new 2,000km system joins Telxius’ Brusa and Junior cables on the Atlantic coast of Latin America adding to the diverse end-to-end connectivity on offer between the US, Brazil and Argentina.

The launch comes as demand increases for high capacity network connectivity and diverse network solutions which enable enterprise customers to respond effectively to growing digital needs.

As mentioned, the Tannat cable is a continuation of the 160Tbps Brusa cable which connects Virginia Beach in the US to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Junior which links Rio de Janeiro – Santos, Brazil. Also, SAm-1, the 25,000km subsea cable ring that surrounds Latin America, provides additional route diversity.

“With the addition of Tannat to our subsea network in Latin America we have effectively established the most modern and diverse end-to-end connectivity route between Brazil, Argentina and the US,” said Pablo Fraguas (pictured), sales VP, southern region of Telxius Cable.

“This new route not only improves the quality of the available network connectivity within Latin America, it also provides a robust, low latency connection of these markets to the US and beyond.”

Tannat, via Junior and Brusa, connects directly to the Virginia Beach Telxius CLS Campus which features direct backhaul to the data centres of Ashburn, in the US.

In addition, the Virginia Beach landing station provides direct access to the Marea and Dunant subsea cables, creating a global loop-based system that connects South America, the US and Europe.

In related news, Telxius deployed Ciena’s spectrum sharing submarine network infrastructure to its Marea and Dunant subsea cables.

Using Ciena’s spectrum sharing submarine network infrastructure, Telxius is able to deliver a flexible managed spectrum service, enabling the offering of tailored virtual fibre pairs to its customers.
