Morrison & Co appoints Gary Sugarman to expand US infra business in New York

H.R.L. Morrison & Co (Morrison & Co) has appointed Gary Sugarman to lead its infrastructure investment activities in the digital sector.

Sugarman enters the role with 25 years’ experience having invested in and operated telecom and data companies. He currently serves as principal at Richfield Associates, a firm he founded in 1993, to provide advice to telecom companies on equity investments. 

Prior to this, he was also the managing member of Richfield Capital Partners, a fund he started in 2010, to deliver working capital investments to the technology sector.

In this new role, Sugarman will advise Morrison & Co’s US team on investment opportunities within the data centre, fibre and connectivity sectors, as well as providing mentorship and strategic counsel to senior executives of the firm’s portfolio companies.

Morrison & Co opened its New York office in 2020 to expand its presence in North America. The company significant investment and operating experience in digital infrastructure, currently holding investments in Vodafone New Zealand and CDC Data Centres, on behalf of its investors.

As a result, the company is growing its US investment portfolio built on its investment themes of decarbonisation, data and connectivity, and social infrastructure.  In the US, it currently manages investments in renewable energy firm, Longroad Energy, and Clearvision Ventures, an infra-tech fund.
