stc spends $266.6m on three data centres in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabian telecommunications company stc has launched three data centres in Riyadh, Jeddah and Al-Madina, with $266.6 million (SAR 1 billion) investment.

The company said it will host telecommunications equipment and digital cloud infrastructure, offering higher availability to its customer.

It also enables stc to optimise future expansions with Grow-On-Demand technology and Quick-To-Market solutions according to the company.

The three data centres have been built with over 150 prefabricated modules, providing 10.8MW of critical IT power, expandable to 16.8MW.

Phase 2 of the program is in construction and will bring the total critical IT power to 40.8MW. These projects represent the first phase of its New Era “Next Generation” data centres.

Phase 1 of the program is now complete, with new data centres in Jeddah and Madinah online, as well as stc’s third new data centre being commissioned in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The announcement comes as part of stc’s ongoing efforts to enable digital transformation within the region and further the country’s National Transformation Program 2020, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.

“Yesterday we announced $500 million investment with Ali Baba Cloud and eWTP, and to today we announce investing about SAR 1 billion in these three data centres,” said Nasser Al-Nasser, CEO, stc.

“The successful completion and transformation of stc’s mission critical offering will enable the next step in digital services to be delivered throughout the Kingdom. This first milestone achievement is only the beginning.”

stc has started Phase 2 of the program that will deliver an additional four new data centres in strategic locations throughout the region.
