Sparkle has expanded its network reach in Brazil with the opening of a new point of presence (PoP) in Porto Alegre.

It is Sparkle’s 12th PoP in the country – adding to existing points in Sao Paulo, Rio De Janeiro, Fortaleza and Salvador – and is intended to meet demand for international connectivity services across Brazil.

Located in Porto Alegre, the PoP will offer local and regional players high-speed connectivity through Sparkle’s IP transit service Seabone, as well as advanced transport solutions up to 100 GB through the City2City service.

Announcing the news, Sparkle said: “By connecting to the PoP, network providers, ISPs, OTT’s, Content and Application Providers can also benefit from Sparkle’s DDoS mitigation service - that grants customers the option to self-protect their networks from attacks – and from the Virtual NAP solution – which allows access to the main Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) without the need to build any proprietary infrastructure.”

The new Porto Alegre PoP marks a further expansion of Sparkle’s network capillarity in Brazil and consolidates the company’s positioning as one of the main providers in the Americas and as first global Tier-1 backbone in the Latam region.

Sparkle now offers four diversified routes for connectivity from South to North America ensuring complete redundancy and a top quality data experience, courtesy of its terrestrial and submarine networks which include two “digital highways”: the Seabras-1 cable in the Atlantic and Curie (pictured) in the Pacific.

Now headed by Elisabetta Romano, in recent weeks Sparkle has announced a partnership with Piedmont internet exchange and its fifth certification for reducing environmental impact in Greece.
