Hurricane Electric confirms the deployment of a new point of presence (PoP) in Arrow Group's Calgary data centre.

The new PoP is located at in the heart of downtown within one of the Arrow Group's strategically positioned facilities located to serve the area's many energy and high-tech businesses.

As a result, customers can cross connect to tier one providers, as well as the Calgary Internet Exchange (YYCIX), the first IXP in Alberta.

"Hurricane Electric is excited to offer organizations in Calgary another option for cost effective, high speed connectivity,” said Mike Leber (pictured), president of Hurricane Electric.

“Our partnership with Arrow continues to build on Hurricane Electric’s commitment to provide connectivity across the globe."

This latest PoP is Hurricane Electric’s second location in Calgary and sixteenth in Canada and will provide enterprises in Alberta with improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next generation IP connectivity services.

In addition, customers of Arrow Group now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GE), 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) and 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) ports.

Additionally, customers at the facility can exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s global network, which offers over 20,000 BGP sessions with over 8,000 different networks via more than 250 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.

At the start of the month, Hurricane Electric launched another PoP in the data centre at the University of Guam in Mangilao, as well as connecting to the MARIIX (Mariana Islands Internet Exchange) housed at the university.

The new PoP is located at 303 University Drive, Mangilao, Guam, with the PoP being the company’s first in the region set to serve the Asia-Pacific market.
