A1 Telekom Austria Group is supporting the EU initiative, GAIA-X, with the goal of promoting a common European cloud policy.

GAIA-X is recognised as a European foundation for future European data spaces. As a member since its inception A1 Telekom Austria Group GAIA-X through its subsidiary A1 Digital.

"It is of central interest to us to strengthen digital sovereignty in Europe and we must retain the ability to act in a self-determined manner in Europe. As part of the GAIA-X project we support Europe's independence and innovative ability," said Alejandro Plater, (pictured) COO A1 Telekom Austria Group.

A1 Digital is part of GAIA-X and, with Exoscale, the A1 Digital Cloud from Germany, is working to drive the European data infrastructure space forward.

"Digitalisation requires not only courage and persistence, but also the right infrastructure. It is a great honour and a logical consequence for us to participate in the GAIA-X initiative as a Day 1 Member," said Elisabetta Castiglioni, CEO A1 Digital.

"Cloud solutions are increasingly becoming part of the central infrastructure of many companies. With Exoscale, we already offer GDPR-compliant, secure and high-performance cloud solutions from Europe: Data sovereignty is thus already in the hands of the entrepreneurs. With servers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, we can guarantee that customer data will always remain in the country”.

In related news, the GAIA-X Initiative announced in September that it is one step closer to its goal of a sovereign digital infrastructure for Europe, with the official signing of incorporation papers for GAIA-X AISBL, a non-profit association.

The initiative’s twenty-two founding members signed the documents in Brussels to create an association for securing funding and commitment from members to fulfil the initiative’s vision for Europe.
