DE-CIX’s Summa named chair of the OMAC of the Internet Society

DE-CIX CEO Harald Summa has been elected as one of three co-chairs of the Organisation Member Advisory Council (OMAC) of the Internet Society (ISOC).

The OMAC of ISOC serves as an advisory body for the Internet Society senior management and board, on such matters as the general welfare and effectiveness of the internet and its users.

The three co-chairs convene meetings, communicate with members and leading the OMAC as it advises the leadership of the Internet Society on matters of strategic and operational importance.

Along with Summa, the other two elected co-chairs are senior managers from Amazon and Facebook. All three chairs are elected for a period of 24 months.

“It is a great honour to be elected as chair among other senior leaders of the global internet industry,” said Summa.

“I look forward to supporting the council and the Internet Society with my experience and working together with council members to achieve our common goal: an open, robust, reliable and trustworthy internet for all.”

The Internet Society is a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring the open development, evolution, and use of the internet.

Operating through a global community of chapters and members, the Internet Society collaborates with a broad range of groups to promote the technologies that keep the internet safe and secure and advocates for policies that enable universal access. The Internet Society is also the organisational home of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

In related news, last month DE-CIX reported that it saw revenues increase 10% globally over the course of 2019 to reach €39.6 million, as the global customer base across all locations grew 20%.

Revenues from international activities increased by more than 29% compared to 2018 and accounted for almost 15% of total revenue in 2019.
