DE-CIX and MSK-IX deploy St Petersburg location

DE-CIX in Frankfurt and MSK-IX, a Russian Internet Exchange operator, announced the availability of DE-CIX interconnection services in St Petersburg.

To be marketed as DE-CIX St Petersburg, powered by MSK-IX, the new location will enable such services as GlobePEER remote, VirtualPNI and DirectCLOUD.

“Two years after we established a strategic partnership with MSK-IX and built a unique direct interconnection between our flagship IX in Frankfurt and the Moscow location, we are now taking the next big step in order to provide even more customers with the benefits of DE-CIX interconnection services closer to the edge,” said Maxim Pozdnyakov, regional director Northern & Eastern Europe of DE-CIX. “There is a constant demand for mutual traffic between Russian and European countries – here is where we start meeting these requirements.“

 DE-CIX St Petersburg, powered by MSK-IX now forms part of the strategic growth ambitions that aims to growth the DE-CIX interconnection ecosystem towards Northern and Eastern Europe, as the city is well located to act as a gateway to Scandinavia. Additionally, with GlobePEER remote, customers are able to peer with 14 Internet Exchanges on three continents with only one access.

In related news, DE-CIX has announced its further expansion into South East Asia with the opening of new internet exchange (IX) in Singapore.

Launching in the second half of 2020, the IX location will be fully operated by DE-CIX itself and will run on the DE-CIX Apollon interconnection platform, which allows the provisioning of different interconnection services like peering and cloud exchange.
