Bill Bishop has been named by Alaska Communications’ board of directors as president and chief executive officer.

Bishop (pictured) had served as Alaska Communications’ interim CEO since June 2019. He joined the company in 2004 and has served in several leadership roles in consumer and business sales and operations, including director of retail operations, director of business and wholesale, vice president of business and wholesale, senior vice president of customer and revenue management and chief operations officer.

“In my role as interim CEO, I’ve developed an even deeper understanding of Alaska Communications’ opportunities and challenges, our people and customers,” Bishop said.

“This is an exciting time for Alaska Communications. The demand for broadband and managed IT services continues to grow. Alaska is a critical location for our country’s resource development, military defence, arctic research and global logistics, all industries we support. We’ve worked to become our customers’ trusted technology partner. I’m honoured to continue working alongside our board, leadership team and our more than 500 employees as we take our company forward.”

Bishop has more than 25 years of telecom and business leadership experience, including AT&T and McCaw Communications, and will also serve on the company’s board of directors.

David Karp, chairman of the board, added: “Bill knows Alaska Communications, its customers, its people and Alaska better than anyone. He is a long-time Alaskan with deep roots in the state. Bill understands the uniqueness of the market and strength of our people that make the company successful. He’s led our revenue growth as a sales leader over the past 10 years. The board is confident that Bill’s customer-centric approach, leadership style and extensive tenure with the company will serve our company and shareholders well into the future.”
