Due for completion before the end of 2020, the two data centres will have a combined size of 8,500 m², representing an investment of NOK 600 million (approximately $66 million).
“Our international customers see Norway as an excellent location for their data, with green and inexpensive energy, political stability and a cool climate,” said Gisle M. Eckhoff (pictured), CEO of DigiPlex. “The two new centres we are announcing today will complement the three Norwegian centres we already operate, and form part of our continuing growth plans in the Nordics.”
Both facilities will boast state-of-the-art features as well as being completely environmentally friendly, following DigiPlex’s modular design principles, which also includes the company’s air-to-air cooling system. The high-efficiency system is uniquely suited to the Nordic climate where DigiPlex operates, yielding efficiencies and cost savings up to 25% above the industry average.
“These two new sites, which we’re excited to have operational as early as 2020, underline our ability to deliver against the high demands for speed, resource and capability that international customers have when considering build-out in new regions," added Daniel Joyce, chief development officer at DigiPlex.
The majority of the capacity across both centres in both Fetsund and Hobøl has already been reserved for global customers. The Fetsund facility (pictured above) will be located at the DigiPlex Fetsund campus adjacent to the company’s existing 10MW facility. While the second Hobøl site (pictured below) will be situated on a new 40,000 m² plot with an option to buy an additional 27,000 m² - the plot allows for the further construction of a data centre campus.
Both developments are estimated to generate several hundred new local jobs, including subcontractors and suppliers to the sites.
Last month, DigiPlex announced that is it to offer Microsoft Azure ExpressRoute in the Nordic market.
