Colt expands IQ Network footprint in Japan

Colt Technology Services has announced that it is expanding its IQ Network in Japan to Kyoto and Kobe.

Colt has said that the move to these cities is in an effort to meet the growing demand from customer for more connectivity solutions in the region.

“As an organisation, Colt has an unwavering focus on ensuring that our network is present where ever our customers want to do business, and that is no different for Colt Asia. We strive to enable our customers’ next wave of business growth, and we are confident that by extending the Colt IQ Network into Kyoto and Kobe, we can do just that,” said Kenji Hioki (pictured), president and regional executive for Asia, Colt.

The company has been making a lot of investment in its optical and Ethernet infrastructure in the region, particularly between Singapore and Hong Kong. Additionally, its backbone has been upgraded to 100Gbps, network redundancy between Tokyo and Osaka has been implemented, and Nagoya was added to the company’s new business area in Japan. In the Asia-Pacific region, the IQ Network was also recently expanded to Australia.

“This coupled with Colt’s partnerships with the key cloud providers in the region, ensures that Colt Japan has all of the requirements to create the connectivity ecosystem required for businesses both locally and globally to grow and thrive in the digitally enabled environment of today,” added Hioki.

The news follows a series of upgrades carried out by Colt as of late. Last year, the company grew the network into a number of new regions including the US, Spain, Dublin, Berlin and Eastern Europe.

In related news, earlier this year Cold Data Centre Services (Colt DCS) announced the acquisition of a new site in Osaka, Japan. The Osaka facility will act as home for Colt DCS’ first hyperscale data centre in the region, with the development of a 30MW hyperscale site to follow sometime later this year. A month later and Colt DCS expanded its data centre offering with another data centre housed in the Inzai campus. Called Inzai 3 the site has a completion date of Q4 2020 and will become the company’s largest data centre in Japan.
