Hewlett Packard Enterprise explains cloud strategy

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has made new announcements about its expanded choice of clouds through Google Cloud and Equinix.

The first partnership development with the enterprise technology company will take place in the summer of 2019, according to HPE, with Google Cloud unveiling its work to deliver a true hybrid cloud for containers.

Building on the designs announced in April 2019, HPE said it will use the Google Cloud advancement to provide the choice of 'delivery as a service' and will offer advisory and professional services “to accelerate hybrid cloud adoption”.

It will provide new services with Equinix soon after Google in the third quarter of 2019, with the partnership providing more functionality with HPE through the use of data as a service.

HPE plans to bring enhanced automation, broader choice, workload-optimised solutions, and a consistent experience across clouds, with updates including extending AI-driven operations and composability across its portfolio, adding new workload-optimised infrastructure.

According to Gartner, by 2022, more than 75% of global organisations will be running containerised applications in production — a significant increase from fewer than 30% today.

Additionally, more than 50% of containerised workloads will span across hybrid environments, up from less than 20% today.

HPE’s hybrid cloud portfolio expansion will also feature Google Cloud’s Anthos in combination with its on-premises infrastructure, HPE Cloud Data Services, and HPE GreenLake.

In a recent blog post, Sandeep Singh, VP of HPE Storage Marketing, said: "As part of the agreement, HPE will be able to offer the joint hybrid cloud solution via HPE GreenLake to provide a hybrid cloud as a service.

"HPE GreenLake managed services incorporates capacity planning, metering, resource planning, software change control, and hardware and software support – all delivered as-a-service on a pay-per-use basis.

"Early customer interest has been phenomenal across several verticals, including financial services, retail, and manufacturing."

HPE Pointnext Services cloud advisors, assisted by expertise from the acquisitions of Cloud Technology Partners and RedPixie, will provide cloud consulting, design, and operational services to help customers adopt, deploy, and optimize hybrid cloud for containers.

Additionally, HPE Cloud Volumes will provide data as a service to Equinix Marketplace transactions, which will be available over high-speed connectivity to compute in Equinix data centres.

HPE’s president of Hybrid IT and chief sales officer, Phil Davis, said: “To scale and grow without bounds, HPE provides the hybrid cloud path for customers with advanced analytics and machine learning that removes the burden of managing infrastructure, enables digital transformation, and accelerates growth.

“Together, automation and composability can support business objectives, increase efficiency, and enable organisations to be more competitive.”

In March 2019, HPE became part of Compute Express Link to accelerate rapidly growing data workloads such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, rich media services, high-performance computing and cloud applications.
