NTT Communications (NTT Com) has completed its acquisition of a majority stake in Transatel, a global internet of things (IoT) connectivity provider and Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE).

The deal officially closed 28 February 2019, with the announcement confirmed at the start of this month. The news was first confirmed in January with Shuichi Sasakura, senior vice president and head of network services at NTT Com saying:

"Together with Transatel's engineering expertise in the IoT connectivity space, NTT Com believes that it can further enhance and contribute to bringing about digital transformation for our customers and partners in the IoT age.”

The deal will enable NTT Com to “drastically extend” its global internet of things (IoT) solution offerings. Additionally, the synergies between Transatel’s global data MVNO solutions and NTT Com’s global network infrastructure, data centre, cloud and IoT platform will result in a unique value proposition for the market.

Back in January, NTT Com also confirmed that it was to expand the interconnection of its Nexcenter data centres in Osaka, Japan, to enable its clients to connect with cloud and content services in a more agile and flexible manner.

The move will see NTT Com begin directly connecting its ecosystem with three major internet exchanges (IXs) in Japan to enable clients to access services offered by these IXs and various NTT Com partner companies
