Moinul Ahsan appointed as director of development for BBG2 cable

The Bay of Bengal Gateway-2 (BBG2) cable project has just named Moinul Ahsan as its new director of development.

Ahsan is a graduate of Texas A&M University and has been active in the promotion development of BBG2 at such high profile events as Capacity Africa 2018, Capacity Europe 2018 and SNW-18.

The proposed system is made up of three smaller cables, Express Way 1 (EW1), (Express Way 2) EW2 and (Express Way 3) EW3. The system is being touted as offering 72Tbps and 8 fibre pairs. It also has a tentative RFS date of 2020.

Express Way 1 connects Bilbao, Spain to Hong Kong with potential landing points in Malaysia, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco. Express Way 2 links Medinah, Suadi Arabia to Cape Town, South Africa, while Express Way 3 joins Satun, Thailand to Sydney, Australia.

According to Spark Bangla Submarine cables (SBSCL) the builder, owner and operator behind the BBG2 cable project, it is negotiations with Facebook, Microsoft and Google to join the consortium behind the new system. It has also said that PCCW Global and Etisalat have also expressed interest in the project.
