Alexandre Pébereau’s Tofane Global is still hoping that it will get final approval for its acquisition of iBasis by the end of the year.

But a launch of the combined company – which has already bought Altice’s wholesale and mobile voice business – will not take place until January.

Pébereau (pictured) told Capacity in September that he hoped to complete the iBasis acquisition by the end of 2018. “We are still on the expected timetable,” senior VP Patrick George told Capacity. However the Christmas break will delay plans for the official launch of the new company until “the course of January”, said George, who heads product, strategy and M&A.

KPN plans to sell its wholesale operation, iBasis. Both deals were announced in March for undisclosed prices, but the Altice acquisition – originally just for wholesale voice – was expanded to include mobile voice services by the time that was completed in September.
