Colt Technology Services has unveiled an expansion of its IQ Network, adding more than 7,000km of new fibre infrastructure in Central and Eastern Europe.

The expansion of the flexible network will see a number of European cities connected including Sofia (Bulgaria), Zagreb (Croatia), Brno (Czech Republic), Prague (Czech Republic), Budapest (Hungary), Krakow (Poland), Warsaw (Poland), Bucharest (Romania), Belgrade (Serbia) and Bratislava (Slovakia).

Colt will also connect 10 data centres with end-to-end capabilities on Ciena equipment using a Cisco packet platform.

The London-based wholesaler said it was expanding in Eastern and Central Europe in response to rapid economic expansion in the region which has led to a greater demand for high bandwidth connectivity. The service is understood to also be leveraging existing fibre, according to Colt executives who spoke to Capacity at the Capacity Europe East conference earlier this year.

The service, which will see wave services up 100Gbps offered, as well as spectrum and Ethernet services, will launch in Q1 2019 and is the latest development of the Colt IQ Network.

Colt has also increased the reach of its IQ Network to include both Dublin and Berlin earlier this year. Colt is also looking at expanding into Turkey, executives have told Capacity, further down the line. Overall the IQ Network connects over 850 data centres across Europe, Asia and North America, with over 27,500 on net buildings.

“Connectivity is central to the future of every economy and, for Eastern and Central Europe, Colt can be a key player in increasing competitiveness, boosting productivity and meeting the future demands of enterprises,” said Carl Grivner, CEO of Colt Technology Services.

“Over the past year, we have announced the significant expansion of our Colt IQ Network in Europe, Asia and North America. We are determined to ensure that we meet the growing demands of the local and international businesses that we serve and that are driving economic growth around the world.”
