Digital Realty has announced the availability of direct, private access to Salesforce via Digital Realty Service Exchange in 15 metro areas worldwide.

In addition, as a Salesforce Express Connect partner, Digital Realty also offers its customers direct access to the full range of the Salesforce Lightning Platform.

"Direct connections to Salesforce through Service Exchange give enterprises the confidence they need to expand their deployment quickly and cost-effectively with the knowledge that application performance will improve significantly with reduced risk of service interruptions," said Chris Sharp, chief technical officer, Digital Realty. "Global enterprises increasingly turn to Digital Realty to enable their own rapid expansion, and we are committed to continuing to innovate to meet their interconnection needs."

The 15 metro areas that will immediately have Layer 3 access Salesforce is: Amsterdam, Ashburn, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Frankfurt, Dallas, London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle. Additionally, the Service Exchange simplifies the process of configuring and managing the network edge for their customers. It also provides a single port that supports multiple virtual private connections which users can actively manage through the Digital Realty MarketplacePORTAL, increasing and decreasing bandwidth on-demand.

The company says that direct connections to software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications such as Salesforce have benefits over connectivity via the public Internet.

In a recent report by YE20, Gartner noted that more than 30% of organisations will connect to cloud providers using alternatives to the public internet, which has increased from 5% in 3Q17.

Earlier this year, Digital Realty expanded its dedicated, private access to the IBM Cloud in 15 metropolitan areas around the world. Direct access to IBM Cloud is now available through the Digital Realty Service Exchange and IBM Cloud Direct Link via more than 70 Digital Realty data centres in Amsterdam, Ashburn, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, Miami, Phoenix, Portland, New York, Santa Clara, Seattle, Singapore, Sydney and Toronto.
