SoftBank's BBIX launches Thai JV with True IDC

SoftBank’s internet exchange arm BBIX has launched a new joint venture with True Internet Data Center to provide carrier neutral and low latency internet exchange peering services in Thailand.
The new company – which will be called BBIX (Thailand) Company Limited will serve both domestic and international enterprises with internet exchange services resulting in low latency connectivity.
BBIX, from Japan, and True IDC, from Thailand, outlined three major objectives for the JV: simplicity, low latency, and low costs. This involves moving Thailand peering from an internet service provider-led interconnection model to an equal-based peering system based on BBIX’s Thailand IX platform.
Supparat Sivapetchranat Singhara Na Ayutthaya, general manager and CTO True IDC said: "It is time to take Thailand's digital economy to next level by setting up a world class Internet Exchange peering capability that will result in lower latency connectivity, which has become vital due to increase adoption of data analytics and artificial intelligence use cases by enterprises.
“BBIX is Asia's fastest growing Internet Exchange in Asia and I am confident that this joint venture will result in levelling up Thailand's digital economy."
The partnership will not just aim to tackle the growing Thai market, BBIX Thailand said. It will also utilise its position in Thailand to expand services across the region, beginning with nearby Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.
It is the latest partnership for BBIX, which is Japanese technology giant SoftBank’s internet exchange arm. It recently announced a partnership with Epsilon that will see it offer on-demand connectivity across the Asian country.
BBIX runs eight points of presence in Japan, and also offers internet exchange services in Hong Kong and Singapore. It provides direct peering for ISPs, CSPs, data centre operators, content providers, and the global carrier community.
Keiichi Makizono, president and CEO of BBIX said: "Thailand's digital economy is now on the rise, but Internet Exchange services is far from their full potential. From our experience as an Internet Exchange service provider in Japan, we have a strong impression that the internet sector of Thailand still has potential to grow, thus we decided to establish a joint venture with True IDC, which is a leading full-service data centre and cloud service provider in Thailand.
“The establishment with True IDC is to provide Internet Exchange centres and services with BBIX's internationally recognized technology, operated and delivered by its 15-year experience in the business field. We believe that BBIX Thailand will be the best Internet Exchange service provider in Thailand."
