GTT Communications has restructured its various divisions and named new heads of Europe and the UK, following its $2.3 billion acquisition of Interoute.

"We have a tremendous opportunity to serve the expanding requirements of multinationals for cloud networking services,” said Rick Calder, president and CEO of GTT. “Our new division structure and talented leadership enable us to provide outstanding service to our clients as we deliver on our purpose of connecting people across organizations, around the world and to every application in the cloud.”

Jesper Aagaard (pictured), the former managing director of Interoute in the Nordics and the Netherlands, has been appointed as the new Europe division president. In his new role Aagaard will be responsible for clients in continental Europe. Before joining Interoute Aagaard was CEO of Comendo Network in Denmark.

In addition, Martin Ford who previously served as GTT’s EMEA division president has now been named as UK division president responsible for clients in the UK and Ireland in addition to the Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific.  Prior to his time at GTT Ford held a number of leadership roles with Hibernia Networks and Level 3 Communications, which was recently acquired by CenturyLink for $34 billion.

In an exclusive interview in our June/July issue of Capacity magazine. Rick Calder, CEO of GTT, said that the company was working towards creating operating divisions with its own the client experience, much closer to the client. The news complements the Americas division led by Eric Warren and the carrier division which is led by Jeff Beer.

“We established three operating divisions, said Calder. "In the Americas we have an enterprise accounts division and a carrier accounts division, run by Eric Warren and Jeff Beer, division presidents respectively. Our business in Europe was much smaller so we actually consolidated both our enterprise and carrier accounts under one leader, Martin Ford [divisional president for EMEA and AP]. We separated out a fourth division which is our small and medium-sized business clients, which we run as a centralised group.”

GTT completed its purchase of Interoute on 31 May, greatly expanding its presence in Europe by acquiring one of the biggest independent network operators in the region. The company says that each division have responsibility for key functions driving organic growth and the client experience, including sales, quoting, ordering, service delivery and billing as well as overall client account management.
