Telenor has appointed new CEOs for its operations in Myanmar and Thailand.
Sharad Mehrotra will be CEO of Telenor Myanmar from the beginning of August. He replaces Lars Erik Tellman, who has been appointed to a senior position in Telenor’s emerging Asia cluster supporting management, partnerships and business development of the cluster.
Most recently Mehrotra has been CEO of Telenor India, a business that is being acquired by Airtel in the long-running consolidation of the Indian mobile industry.
The new CEO of DTAC, Telenor’s operation in Thailand, is Alexandra Reich, who is currently CEO of Telenor Hungary and head of the group’s central eastern Europe cluster.
She replaces Lars-Åke Norling, who is joining the Swedish investment group Kinnevik as investment director and head of its TMT sector from the start of September. Kinnevik is the major investor in Millicom and Tele2.
Austrian-born Reich was an investment banker before moving to telecoms in 2001 with VIAG, T-Online and then Hutchison in Austria, followed by Sunrise and then Swisscom in Switzerland.
Telenor’s group CEO Sigve Brekke said: “Being able to utilise expertise and hands-on experience across markets is among the great advantages of having strong positions in both Scandinavia and Asia. We rely on managers and experts who dare to step out of their comfort zone and take on challenges where they can learn and develop.”
He said the changes “will make us stronger for the future and enable us to continue to deliver what matters most for our customers”.
