DE-CIX to boost interconnectivity at Keppel DC Frankfurt 1

Keppel Data Centres has partnered with DE-CIX, which will see Keppel DC Frankfurt 1 (KDC FRA 1) offering DE-CIX premium interconnection services such as peering and dedicated cloud connections.

The commercial agreement will also qualify KDC FRA 1, a high-availability carrier-neutral data centre managed by Keppel Data Centres and located in Frankfurt am Main, as a DE-CIX-enabled site.

In addition to the lower IP transit and network costs from peering with the interconnection platform, customers at KDC FRA 1 can benefit from the robust and resilient connectivity characteristic of Keppel Data Centres and DE-CIX’s service offerings. This is especially significant against the backdrop of Frankfurt’s growing popularity as a data centre hub and evolving enterprise requirements.

“Frankfurt is an important market for Keppel Data Centres as a key data centre hub in the region,” said Wong Wai Meng, CEO of Keppel Data Centres. “As an experienced developer and operator of high-availability data centres across Asia-Pacific and Europe, we are attuned to the evolving requirements of our customers and are excited to partner with DE-CIX to offer unparalleled interconnectivity at KDC FRA 1.”

DE-CIX in Frankfurt is the world’s leading internet exchange (IX). Spread over more than 20 data centres of different operators in the city of Frankfurt, the IX experiences more than 6.4Tbps of peak traffic and first hit levels over 6Tbps back in December. Its technical infrastructure has a total capacity of 48Tb. More than 800 national and international customers rely on the DE-CIX services in Frankfurt.

Thomas King, chief innovation officer at DE-CIX, added: “One of our core ambitions is to be as close to our customers as possible. Adding KDC FRA 1 in Frankfurt as a DE-CIX Enabled Site is just another step in making the DE-CIX services - such as GlobePEER, GlobePEER Remote, MetroVLAN as well as DirectCLOUD available to more and more companies. With Keppel Data Centres, we have found a partner that will provide first-class data centre services to our mutual customers and will allow us to further grow our business.”

KDC FRA 1 is a two-storey, Tier 3 equivalent facility owned by the Alpha Data Centre Fund (ADCF) and Keppel Data Centres. The ADCF is managed by Alpha Investment Partners, the private fund management arm of Keppel Capital.
