The new location is response to the growing need for fast, high bandwidth and low latency internet access and builds on the existing partnership between the two companies following the successful deployment of a previous PoP at a DigiPlex data centre in Norway Ulven.
Commenting on the new PoP, Henrik Almroth, sales director at Telia Carrier, said: “DigiPlex has been able to give its customers the best of both worlds: high speed connectivity giving a great experience for end users across the globe, whilst using data centres that are in the best locations for delivering greener facilities. The topology, speed and bandwidth of the Telia Carrier IP backbone means that DigiPlex can confidently provide scalable internet connectivity services to customers, as well as take advantage of other IP transport and wavelength services in the future.”
The new PoP will give DigiPlex customers all the green benefits of using a data centre in a cool climate, as well as the ability to get low latency content to end users on a global scale through Telia's IP backbone. DigiPlex’s data centres are also exclusively powered by sustainable sources of electricity.
Telia Carrier’s global fibre backbone transmits 1Tbps on its US network. The company offers worldwide connectivity by connecting approximately 230 PoPs across Europe, North America, Asia and the Middle East, with over 80 of these PoP in North America alone.
Last month, Eletronet, Brazil’s national service provider, selected Telia Carrier’s global fibre backbone to provide dedicated internet access to its Brazilian customers. The partnership will give Eletronet access to Telia Carrier’s global network, enabling the service provider to offer new services in the Brazilian market.
