Peter van Burgel appointed as CEO of AMS-IX

Peter van Burgel has been appointed as new CEO of the world’s largest internet exchange AMS-IX with immediate effect.

He succeeds Job Witteman who stepped down from his position in October last year, more than 17 years after he founded the Amsterdam internet exchange. NxtVn announced shortly after that Witteman was to join the data centre park operator as its chief operating officer.

“We are pleased to appoint van Burgel who brings a wealth of both business and leadership experience to the table. Throughout his 20-year career within the IT, telecommunications, and internet industries, he has been a driving force behind global business transformation initiatives spanning people, processes, and technology,” said Sylvie LaPerrière, chair of the supervisory board of AMS-IX.

“This is exactly what AMS-IX needs in our continuous changing business environment. His broad international experience will greatly assist AMS-IX since 80% of our customers are coming from abroad and we operate internet exchanges at seven different places in the world.”

Van Burgel joins from Westcon, a global value-added technology company where he was most recently responsible for driving digital transformation. He will execute the renewed strategy and continue to ensure that AMS-IX maintains its role as one of the global leaders at the core of the internet.

Commenting on his appointment, van Burgel said: “Joining this organisation with a global footprint and impressive reputation is very exciting. I’m looking forward to work with the team and continue to develop and expand the existing strong market position.”
