Facebook expands Express Wi-Fi in Nigeria with Tizeti partnership

Facebook has announced a new connectivity partnership with Tizeti to expand its Express Wi-Fi offering in Nigeria.

The social media firm first launched its Wi-Fi offering in Africa in order to expand connectivity in underserved regions by working alongside carriers, operators and local internet service providers.

Tizeti operates 60 solar powered base stations that provide wifi connectivity across Lagos. Facebook’s partnership with the company aims to provide fast and affordable public wifi services in areas such as markets, cafes, and public outdoor spaces.

The two firms plan to roll out hundreds of hotspots in Nigeria over the next few months, joining services offered by Coollink in the country. In addition to Nigeria, Express Wi-Fi is also live in Kenya (with Surf), Tanzania, India, and Indonesia.

“We are committed to working with people in Africa connect, helping entrepreneurs and developers grow, and to eliminating barriers to connectivity,” says Emeka Afigbo, Facebook head of platform partnerships Middle East and Africa
