TIM reportedly set to appoint new CEO

Telecom Italia, which operates as TIM, is set to name Amos Genish as its new CEO, according to reports from Reuters.

The appointment is another sign of Vivendi tightening its grip on the Italian incumbent, despite ongoing investigations but Italian officials into the French firm’s control over TIM.

Genish, Vivendi’s chief convergence officer, has been general manager of operations at TIM since former CEO Flavio Cattaneo left the Italian firm in July.

Citing four sources close to the matter, Reuters claims Genish will now officially be named as the new CEO, with Vivendi CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine continuing in his role as chairman at the Italian operator.

Giuseppe Recchi, currently deputy chairman at TIM, could remain in his role, the report adds, as well as holding responsibility Sparkle and Telecom Italia’s wholesale network and subsea cable assets.

Vivendi has repeatedly claimed that, despite its 24% stake in TIM, it does not properly control the operator, and did not need to inform the government of a change in ownership when it upped its stake earlier this year. Italian regulators are looking into whether Vivendi breach strict ownership rules, as TIM owns significant national interests including Sparkle’s subsea cables.

Reports earlier this month claimed Vivendi is set to appeal a decision by Italy’s market regulator which found the French firm has de facto control over Telecom Italia, though a separate Reuters report claims that, despite French and Italian government officials meeting earlier this week, TIM’s ownership issues was not on the agenda.
