Altice sets up US business unit, focusing on Wifi and cloud backup

Altice USA is merging its Lightpath, Optimum and Suddenlink business operations into a single Altice Business unit to provide data, voice, video and managed services via its cable network.
The French-controlled company, which acquired the US operations over the last two years, and has since floated their shares, will offer a standard range of products in the 21 states where it has networks.
Hakim Boubazine, Altice USA’s co-president and chief operating officer, said: “Creating a national Altice Business organisation with unified leadership sets the foundation for the delivery of unique and flexible business telecom offerings, leading to an exceptional customer experience.”
The company said that managed Wifi and cloud backup, previously offered to a portion of the footprint, are the first value-added services to be made available across the 21 states the company serves.
“We have served business customers for several decades through our Optimum, Suddenlink and Lightpath business brands, and this approach enables us to provide a higher level of service, offer a broader product array, and customize ideal technology solutions for Altice Business customers,” said Boubazine.
Altice said it would use both DOCSIS – the cable broadband technology – and fibre to deliver services. Altice is planning to upgrade all its US operations to deliver services via fibre at 10Gbps.
It is also developing new business products at its R&D centre in Portugal, where it owns the former Portugal Telecom, now PT Portugal.
Kevin Stephens, executive vice president of Altice Business, said: “As we introduce new products and services, Altice Business will create more value for our Lightpath, Optimum Business and Suddenlink Business customers.”
He said offerings would include “increased availability of emerging managed services and robust connectivity offerings, as well as the continued enablement of new network security solutions”.
