Company veteran Charles Meyers has been appointed to the newly created position of president of strategy, services and innovation at Equinix.
"This is an important time in Equinix's history as we build upon our nearly 20 years of success and look to implement the initiatives that will guide our success through the next 20 years and beyond. I look forward to identifying key growth areas for the business and directing our mission of being a strategic partner to businesses as they navigate the dynamic requirements of an increasingly 'cloud-first' world," said Meyer.
In his new role, Meyer is responsible for leading the strategic business teams, and included within the strategy, services and innovation unit are the office of the chief technology officer, business development, product management and product engineering. Their goal is to position Equinix for future success by optimising the company’s position as an enabler of cloud services, identifying key growth areas as part of the company’s growth strategy and evaluating key market, competitive and technology trends and translating them into actionable business requirements.
Meyer’s personal focus in this new role is to help Equinix meet the fast moving customer demands of an increasingly “cloud first” world, as well as, identifying key growth areas for the business and providing the resources needed to incubate and vet them, all in line with the company’s long-term strategy.
Having joined Equinix in 2010 as president of the Americas, Meyers delivered outstanding results for the company’s largest profit and loss. In 2013, he was promoted to chief operating officer, where he oversaw global sales, marketing, operations and client services. From this point onwards his former operational responsibilities will fall under ‘common leadership’ and he will report directly to CEO Steve Smith.
Commenting on the new appointment Smith said: "As Equinix becomes an increasingly important and strategic partner to businesses that are realigning their organisations to benefit from the shift to digital, the addition of the new role of president of strategy, services and innovation will enable Equinix to prioritise the current and future needs of our customers. With his deep understanding and proven track record of growing our business, Charles is ideally positioned to take the organisation into our next phase of growth as we relentlessly focus on serving the needs of our customers."
