Yahsat to launch services in Brazil with Al Yah 3 satellite

Yahsat has unveiled plans to launch operations in Brazil this year when it launches Al Yah 3 satellite in H2 2017.

The satellite will cover more than 95% of the Brazilian population and will also be used for wholesale services, according to Yahsat.

Services to be offered by Al Yah 3 include high-speed satellite broadband for end users, small and medium-sized enterprises as well as high data rate backhaul links for Internet service providers and telecommunications carriers.

The Al Yah 3 launch will help take Yahsat’s coverage to over one billion people Africa, Middle East and part of the Asian continents.

Yahsat has already struck a number of agreements for the satellite, it said, including a long-term contract with Telespazio service provider, a joint-venture between Leonardo-Finmeccanica (67%) and Thales (33%).

The agreement will see Telespazio offer its customers satellite connectivity capabilities and fully managed IP solutions, using a combination of Al Yah 3's Ka band and its own infrastructure.
