PCCW Global and SAP Digital Interconnect have signed an agreement to merge respective Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX) domains into a single IPX domain.

The international operating division of HKT has combined forces with SAP Mobile Services, now SAP Digital Interconnect, to set new standards in geographic reach, quality and flexibility of mobile roaming and interconnect services.

The deal creates a global, independent full-service IPX offering, with customers now being able to benefit from both SAP’s LTE roaming footprint and PCCW Global’s IPX Voice and VoLTE capabilities, all offered via a single dedicated network connection.

“PCCW Global and SAP Digital Interconnect aim to provide best-of-breed IPX services to their existing and new customers, offering one of the largest and most far-reaching on-net connectivity solutions in the industry which combine a comprehensive suite of both IPX and VoLTE services,” said Ronnie Klingner, president of mobility, security and digital services at PCCW Global.

With the surge in LTE subscriber demand and data traffic, the combined capabilities of both companies will aid mobile operators to better address these challenges by offering various new services including new ENUM capabilities to facilitate easy and cost-efficient routing of VoLTE traffic.

Sethu Meenakshisundaram, president of SAP Digital Interconnect, added: “By combining the strength of SAP Digital Interconnect, an industry leader in global roaming services, with PCCW Global’s voice footprint and extensive MPLS backbone, we aim to deliver customers unrivalled scale, quality, and flexibility in mobile services. This collaboration has extensive future potential globally and is intended to benefit operators both in the short- and mid-term.”

Combining footprints into a single IPX offering will enable the two companies to deliver a range of new and advanced services including high-quality GRX, LTE data roaming, diameter, SCCP, Flex IPX (bandwidth on-demand), VoIPX, VoLTE and Globalview (advanced analytics and reporting).

CSL, the mobile network operator in Hong Kong and an operating division of HKT, will be the user of the combined IPX domain. Richard Midgett, managing director of wireless business at HKT, said: “We are delighted to be one of the first to benefit from this latest development. With PCCW Global and SAP Digital Interconnect, we can now access a broad range of services that support both our current and future needs.”
