Colt to upgrade metro network in Hong Kong and Singapore

Colt Technology Services has announced a number of initiatives to expand its metro networks in Singapore and Hong Kong in 2017.

The carrier will enhance the Colt IQ Network using both optical and Ethernet architecture to offer high-bandwidth services to major buildings and data centres across Asia.

In Singapore, the investment will include a large-scale expansion of its existing coverage, while it will also begin digging projects to prepare for its next-generation fibre deployment.

Colt’s IQ Network is a 100G network which connects to more than 200 data centres and carrier hotels globally. It is optimised for SDN, NFV and cloud services.

Colt claims the expansion will make it the only provider to have a fully-owned fibre metro network in key Asian cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka and Singapore, as well as major European locations.

The initiatives will begin in Hong Kong in April, with other Asian cities to be announced later in the year, Colt said.

“Last year, Colt demonstrated its commitment to delivering high-bandwidth digital transformation to businesses in Asia that are global yet need local attention, through initiatives including the construction of the Japan National Network ,” said Kenji Hioki, CCO Asia at Colt Technology Services.

“Today, we continue to build on that investment with our Singapore and Hong Kong expansions, which are designed to deliver the advantages of speed, security, and reliability to businesses looking to connect to markets in Asia and beyond.”

Colt also pledged to augment investments in its Asian infrastructure by adding key submarine cable routes to its backbone to boost the reliability of its network.

It comes just a month after Colt announcedCisco had won the contract to upgrade its European and Asian network to 100Gbps. Colt has also announced an SDN interoperability trial with AT&T.
