Eriksson is an industry veteran, having most recently served as shout-east and Oceania chief strategy office for Ericsson. He joined the Swedish vendor in 1986 and has held a number of roles, including head of research, group CTO, and CEO of its Australia and New Zealand arm.
“In his role as head of Ericsson Silicon Valley, he built strong relationships within the local ecosystem,” said Telstra technology innovation and strategy group executive Stephen Elop.
“Håkan will bring significant leadership to the CTO role with his success in building Ericsson’s technology leadership, driving research development and significant developments in the convergence of wireless and fixed line.”
He replaces Nandlall,who was sacked after it was alleged he had falsified his CV and plagiarised presentations, a claim he has denied.
Nandlall had also joined Telstra from Ericsson, where he was CTO and head of strategy for its North American unit.
It is the latest appointment at the Australian operator, after it announced former Juniper chief Robyn Denholmas chief operations officer in July. Denholm replaced Kate McKenzie, who left in July.
