Telefónica picks Xura as global network messaging partner

Telefónica has selected Xura to support its global messaging service across all countries the Spanish carrier operates in.

The deal will see Xura deploy its Message Controller (MCO) solution across Telefónica's network, providing a multi-functional messaging platform for SMS and MMS services. The deal does not include Vivo in Brazil or O2 UK.

MCO provides intelligent routing functions and scenario management for message handling and optimising traffic across a network. It also provides an SMS firewall including SpamShield technology, which implements real-time spam and fraud detection.

Xura claims its technology can also serve as a Launchpad for future IP-based services and will be integrated in to Telefónica's overall networking ecosystem. It is fully virtualised, allowing for deployment in an NFV environment.

Xura CEO Philippe Tartavull said: "Our partnership with the Telefónica Group spans more than ten years, so we are extremely pleased to close this exclusive agreement that reinforces our long-standing relationship.

“Not only will this messaging framework future-proof Telefónica's messaging infrastructure but the new scope will mean we can secure their networks and protect them against fraudulent activity, as well as support them as they migrate to NFV.”
