French Guyana invites tenders for subsea cable

French Guyana has issued an invitation to tender for the establishment of a submarine cable to connect French Guyana to Europe.

The French local authority of French Guyana (Collectivité territoriale de Guyane) has issued an invitation to tender for the establishment and operation of a submarine cable to connect French Guyana to Europe.

This system specified by the Government has to provide transmission capacity for a high-speed and secure broadband electronic communications network.

The infrastructure will be a submarine transmission system composed of optical cables with a landing point in French Guyana (Kourou) and an optional landing point at Saint Laurent-du-Maroni, French Guyana.

To manage and operate electronic communications infrastructure deployed by its members, including those deployed by the Regional Council of Guyana, and the satellite bandwidth capacity negotiated with satellite operators, the government has constructed a consortium called The SPLANG. This is a local public company with a majority government shareholding.

The deadline for the submission of tenders, in French, is September 21, 2016. All relevant documentation can be downloaded from the SPLANG website.
